Day #4! What an amazing 24 hours. I've learned so much more in such a short time. This group is full of resources, a wealth of Vegan information and I'm sitting back, soaking it up and enjoying the ride!
Date nite with a meat eating man...not so bad because I read earlier in the day of all the wonderful places with vegan options and couldn't wait to try one. HomeSlyce, ummm, can you say...YUM! I had the vegan pizza, topped with vegan cheese, sausage and mushrooms, so good it felt like I was cheating! Amazing, each day another myth dies in the light, vegan food is tasty and I don't miss a thing from my former diet, nothing and that folks, is AWESOME!
I had already made it through the day 100% Vegan, no slip ups, no cravings, just vegan! Surprisingly I went to Trader Joes and the vegan selection was more limited than my neighborhood Giant, but I purchased almonds (great for snacking during the day), vegan cheddar cheese, Meatless beef strips, and chicken strips, Tofurkey Italian Sausage, a few bean burgers, bananas and a vegan frozen pizza. The key to my success is making certain i have enough food on hand and a recipe to keep me busy. It works.
Today, I visited The Land Of Kush where I purchased, the lentil burgers in gravy, with spicy kale and rice, I plan to go back and give Naijha a kiss for the recommendation, everything was delicious. The Land Of Kush, HomeSlyce and other places that offer vegan options eliminate the awful feeling of being annoying I get from asking:
Is this vegan?
Is there meat in this?
Dairy?
What was used to season it?
Are you sure?
The most surprising thing about the past 24 hrs was, the feeling of absolute nausea when I smelled someone's italian sausage they were eating, huh? the smell of meat making me sick? in 4 days? No way! yes, way! And as if that weren't enough, I tried to make myself want to eat crab, i though hard and long about it, tried to remember the taste that I used to love and the thought was not pleasant. It's official "they" got me - those vegan folks, got me. Today, just day 4, I proudly say, "No, I'm sorry, I can't have that, I'm vegan!"
Ericka, it was a pleasure seeing and serving you today! Thanks for the shout out! So happy to hear that your vegan journey is going well.
ReplyDeleteAmazing flavor! Loved every bite, thanks!
ReplyDeleteEricka you are a superstar! I am so happy you are enjoying the Vegan Pledge :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome to hear, so glad it's going so well for you already! :) I just wanted to give you and everyone else a heads up about something we've run into at Trader Joe's before; triple check their dairy free cheeses, because some still contain casein. It makes no sense to me, but they keep it next to the actual vegan cheese so just beware so you don't find yourself having to make a second trip like we did!
